What is different about "Take Payment"

Take Payment is the quickest way to collect a payment in person. Just enter the amount and payment method details. You can either enter the payment on your phone or let the customer enter it on their own mobile device.

Keep in mind that these payments aren't linked to specific estimates, projects, invoices, or customer records because the form provides limited information. Therefore, payments made through Take Payment will only show up in Payment Activity.

Enter a payment on behalf of your customer

  1. Click Take Payments in the left sidebar (desktop) or hamburger menu (mobile).
  2. Mark whether the payment you are taking is Non-taxable or Taxable.
  3. Payment Amount = enter the total amount due 
  4. Tax Amount = enter the amount to add for sales tax (field only appears if you selected Taxable at the top) 
  5. Payment Method = select Card or eCheck
  6. Complete all fields your customer's payment information.
  7. Enter billing address associated with the payment method entered.
  8. Enter one email address for the Receipt Email. Use the Add Email link to add more addresses. See Set your business settings if you would like to receive copies of your customers' receipts.
  9. If surcharging is enabled on your account and an eligible credit card is used for payment, you must check the box to confirm your customer has agreed to the surcharge amount added to the transaction total. The total transaction amount will automatically be adjusted to include the surcharge.
  10. Click Process Payment.

Show a QR code to send the payment form

  1. Click the Quick QR action in the upper right corner.
  2. Mark whether the payment is Non-taxable or Taxable.
  3. Payment Amount = the total amount due 
  4. Tax Amount = the amount to add for sales tax (if you selected Taxable at the top) 
  5. Show the image of the QR code to your customer.
  6. When your customer scans the code, they are presented with an online payment form.
  7. If surcharging is enabled on your account and an eligible credit card is used, the surcharge percentage and dollar amount is disclosed at the bottom of the page. The cardholder must agree to the surcharge to process the payment.
